Ignicord | 100% polyester rope

IGNICORD: a 100% polyester scenic rope

Theatre industry: a challenge for Lottini srl

The theatrical industry has always represented an important challenge for our company: it is a sector in which ropes have been used, since the very beginning, for lifting or supporting numerous stage elements such as backdrops, wings and skies.

Hemp and linen are the classic materials from which stage ropes were, and still are, made. Their softness and ability to withstand loads make hemp and linen suitable for registering and lifting. The ropes made are tied to the struts and are perfect for lifting scenery, trusses, backdrops and backdrops; they guarantee a perfect grip on the pulleys on the trellis and an easy attachment to the shackle.

Over the years, however, new ropes and solutions have been sought to better meet the growing demands of stage mechanics and to adapt to the latest control and movement systems.
For this reason, Lottini srl has developed the ‘Ignicord’ rope in collaboration with important companies in the theatrical industry.
This is a 100% polyester scenic rope, characterised by high flexibility and particularly quiet running. What makes Ignicord rope perfect for scenic applications, however, is its flame resistance capacity: the combustion resistance capacity for plastics is evaluated through the LOI index (limiting oxigen index). The LOI index represents the minimum level of oxygen in the atmosphere that can sustain a flame on a thermoplastic material.

Ignicord Rope LOI Index

The higher the LOI value, the higher the non-flammability.
The LOI unit is the percentage; air, for example, contains about 21% oxygen, so any material with an LOI of less than 21% will ‘endure’ combustion in an outdoor situation.
Ignicord rope has an LOI of 33% so in an outdoor situation it will not feed the flame or propagate it. This characteristic makes Ignicord rope particularly suitable for stage rigging, in both manual and motorised pulls.
For specific applications, high tenacity braids with a tubular appearance are also used, which in the 100% Dyneema version guarantee inextensibility and flexibility comparable to steel cables.
