Carded and raw sisal

Carded and raw sisal

HOW IS CARDED AND RAW SISAL FIBRE USED?

Carded and raw sisal fibre is obtained from the leaves of the sisal agave plant and is used in gypsum products as a structural element, thanks to the high resistance it gives the material: gypsum, in fact, is a ceramic material with a fragile fracture and the introduction of carded or raw sisal fibres is useful precisely to offer greater reinforcement.

The result of combining water-treated sisal fibre with gypsum is a composite material that is light, tough and strong, providing greater resistance to stress.
In addition to this, sisal fibre is also used to improve the mechanical strength of gypsum artefacts such as panels, cornices, pilasters, columns, lampshades, capitals and ornaments and does not remain visible on the surface of the finished product.

Even in the construction industry, where synthetic fibres have been widely used as a reinforcement tool, sisal fibre is able to meet the new demand for biodegradable products of natural origin, used in the green building sector.
Sisal fibre is a natural product that, once it reaches the end of its cycle, decomposes without polluting nature, unlike synthetic materials.

WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN RAW AND CARDED SISAL?

Raw sisal has a compact and rigid appearance and is packaged in bales.
Carded sisal is obtained through a carding process (which makes the sisal bulky, soft and fluffy) and is packaged in 10kg bales or rolls to be more manageable.

WHERE DOES SISAL COME FROM?

In Brazil, sisal is cultivated in about 40 municipalities of the ‘Sisal Region’: this is an extremely poor area where one third of the inhabitants live thanks to the production and extraction of this fibre. Our company aims to make its contribution to reducing poverty levels and improving the living conditions of these poor regions, by encouraging the use of sisal fibre.
We import the fibre directly from the producer, ensuring a constant availability of carded sisal fibre, sisal sliver and raw sisal fibre.
